About Us

LAC Logo.jpg

Welcome to Walker, Louisiana where we bleed purple and gold all year and we never see a stranger when we go to the grocery store. In the heart of our little community lies The Louisiana Association for Challenged Adults, also know as The Livingston Activity Center. At LAC, we specialize in offering Day Habilitation and Vocational services to the adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our parish and the surrounding parishes and have been doing so since 1961. Helping our participants become independent individuals by teaching life skills and preparing them to enter the work force is our main goal at the center.

At any given day, you could stop by LAC and see all of our Day Hab. participants learning and having fun in our newly remodeled center. Day Hab participants get to work closely with our instructors learning life skills, practicing daily procedures, and exploring the many exciting activity rooms that our center has to offer. We are constantly thinking of new activities and better ways to utilize our space so that our participants can have the best learning space possible.

While our Day Habilitation participants stay at the center exploring all of the opportunities we offer in house, our supported employment group is out in the community working on the job site. Our mobile crews work closely with an instructor at local businesses completing janitorial and maintenance tasks and even earn a pay check for their hard days of work. We appreciate the support from our community and are always looking to add new contracts to our calendar.

Looking Beyond Disabilities, Focusing on Capabilities, Celebrating Possibilities

Our Mission

Supported Employment

At LAC, our Supported Employment participants have the opportunity to work on one of our work crews along with our instructors and peer models learning job skills and job site etiquette. Our participants get hands-on instruction learning new skills and immediately get to put them to practice completing our work contracts. LAC is blessed to be able to have many work contracts with businesses in our local area and are always looking for more to add to our calendar.

Call us at the center to get our crew to come work for you!

Community Involvement

The Louisiana Association for Challenged Adults is so thankful to be in such a great, tight-knitted community as Livingston Parish. We have been blessed to have the community support and partnerships that we do to allow us to give our participants every opportunity to learn and explore and meet someone new. LAC is always looking for opportunities and partnerships within our community to better provide our participants with more community interaction and field trip options.
